My Sweet Calista,
Today was a busy day, dirty dishes to clean, laundry that needed folding, and many other things that needed to be done. You were a little cranky today, but for the most part you were in a great mood. You made lots of noises to get our attention and when we talked to you, you gave us your beautiful smile. You laughed a lot at you sister, who I am sure you think is the coolest person in the world. You watch every move she makes and when she stops to play with you, you couldn't hold back your excitement, you wiggle like crazy, trying as I imagine to run after her.
Tonight about dinner time you were done, you wanted to be held, played with, given more attention than we had been giving you, but we were busy trying to make dinner and doing the things we thought needed to be done. As I tried tirelessly to get you to sleep tonight, you put up a fight. I wondered if you were teething or getting sick, this is not like you. Sadly, I was frustrated, I had a lot to do.
Finally I just stopped and gave in to your crys and sat down to hold you and cuddle, and you fell fast a sleep. I tried again to lay you in your bed but you wouldn't let me. Back to my chair, rocking you and holding you until you feel asleep again. With nothing else to do but stare at you, my heart sank. I remembered that these moments are already gone with your sister and soon I wont be able to hold you like this either. I remembered that when you were first born, all I wanted to do was hold you when I couldn't. So tonight I stared at you and wrapped your fingers around mine. I held you a little tighter and even longer after I was sure it was safe to put you down.
Tomorrow the laundry, the dusting, whatever it is can wait, I will hold you my sweet baby, because I know soon it will be to late.
All My Love,
Mommy
