Nike Women's Marathon

This weekend I got to run in the Nike Women's Marathon for the second time.  I did it in 2007 for the first time and it took me 6 years to get back into the race.  Over 100,000 people apply for 30,000 spots.  The only way in is through a random lottery.

I got to run with my friend Melissa and we had a great time together.

They put all the participants names on the outside windows of the Nike store in Union Square in San Francisco.

It's a very popular part of the race weekend.  Everyone enjoys finding their name.

They hold an expo in the middle of Union Square for the participants.  I am always impressed with the fun things they plan out for the participants.  Melissa and I had a great time at the expo.

We got these fun nail stickers in our goody bags.

I borrowed the next four photos from the Nike Marathon Facebook page.  The race began at 6:30am and because it was the 10th year of the race they started it of with fireworks.  It was so beautiful.

30,000 women and a few good men get to participate in this event.  As crazy as that sounds this race is very well organized!

It was a foggy morning but still a beautiful day for a run.

This year they had an app where you could track a racer and see where they were on the course.  My friend Kali also ran in the race and her husband was keeping track of all of us and took this photo and shared it with us.

Freddie and Isabelle were at the finish line waiting for Melissa and I to cross.  It was so fun to see their smiling faces as we finished up the race.  I had been having knee pain for the last two weeks and was worried about how it would play out on race day.  I felt great for the first 9 miles and we were making great time,  I ran my fastest 5K and 10K yet... it wasn't until we started to come down from a steep hill that I started to feel pain in my knees.  The last four miles were a little harder because of the pain so we slowed down quite a bit, but we were able to finish strong.  I am so thankful for Melissa, she was a great running partner. We finished in 2 hours and 44 minutes.  Not bad for having to slow it down for the last 4 miles.

At the end of the race your finisher's medal comes in a Tiffany box.

My biggest fan!
I was so happy that Isabelle was there and got to see me finish.  She rode  her bike along side me many days when I was training for this event.  She said she loved being there and watching me cross the finish line.

Melissa and I at the end with our Tiffany boxes!

Grandma and Gramps 65th Wedding Anniversary

On October 5th we hosted my Gramps and Grandma's 65th Wedding Anniversary Party.

They were married on October 9th 1948 in Winnepeg Canada
They are two of my very favorite people in the whole world.  I absolutely love my grandparents.

It was a beautiful day and I was so glad that it worked out for us to eat outside together at a long table.  It was so nice to celebrate their marriage and hear both my grandparents share memories from the early years.

Here is their wedding photo.
