Soccer Saturday is one of our favorite days of the week. I love how we all get excited about Issy's soccer games. Freddie and I wear the team color purple and we all miraculously make it out the door on time every week. Isabelle absolutely loves playing soccer and we love to watch her. This season she has been playing hard and taking practice time seriously. One of her coaches requirements is that each player practice at home at least 4 nights a week for 10 minutes, she rarely needs a reminder. I haven't been bringing my camera to the games because I just want to be a fan and not stuck behind the lens. This week the first quarter started and Isabelle struggled a little, after letting the ball pass her she quickly stepped on the gas and didn't let that happen again. She is a good team player and has learned how to pass the ball to an open team mate and the coaches praise her each week for her awesome passes and for playing her position well. This week she got a hold of the ball midfield and kicked it up the sideline keeping it in control. We were cheering her on and expecting her to pass the ball, but there was no one open, so she went for it, she kicked the ball with everything she had from the side and it went it!! The coaches were cheering, the parents were yelling and Freddie and I were jumping up and down. Isabelle couldn't believe it herself. The quarter ended right then and she ran to the bench and I could see her face tears running down her cheeks. She was so emotional and in disbelief. Her first game goal all on her own. She knew it was special. I hugged her and let her cry. I asked her if they were happy tears and she said yes. I think one of the reasons we love soccer so much is because of the other families who we play with. The entire team returned from last year with 3 new girls. Everyone came up to us and congratulated us. They knew it was a special moment for us. Isabelle played hard the rest of the game and earned the Player Of The Game award from her coaches.
Later that evening my friend Tennielle called and said Trevor scored his first goal in soccer too. So we decided to go celebrate at Leatherby's! The kids loved the special attention and I think we'd better watch out, they may score goals every week thinking they might get spoiled again!!
Issy we are so proud of you for working so hard in soccer and for scoring your very first goal!
